The Group Executive Committee plays a vital role in the running of a Scout Group. The Executive Committee makes decisions and carry out administrative tasks to ensure that the best quality Scouting can be delivered to young people in the Group.
The Executive Committee exists to support the Group Scout Leader in meeting the responsibilities of their appointment.
Members of the Executive Committee also act collectively as charity trustees of the Scout Group, and in the best interests of its members to:
- Comply with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.
- Protect and maintain the Ponteland Scout HQ and equipment owned by and used by the Group.
- Manage the Group finances.
- Provide insurance for people (including all members of the Executive, all Leaders and also occasional volunteers), property and equipment.
- Provide sufficient resources for Scouting to operate, including supporting recruitment, other adult support, and fundraising activities.
- Promote and support the development of Scouting in the local area.
- Manage and implement the Safety Policy locally.
- Ensure that a positive image of Scouting exists in the local community
The Executive Committee also:
- Appoints Administrators, Advisers, and Co-opted members of the Executive Committee.
- Approves the Annual Report and Annual Accounts after their examination by an appropriate independent scrutineer.
- Presents the Annual Report and Annual Accounts to the Scout Council at the Annual General Meeting.

Group President
J Michael Taylor MBE, CEng, MICE, FCIHT
Michael was awarded his Chief Scout’s 50 years Service Award in 2015. Michael started with 1st Ponteland Scout Group in 1965 being appointed Group Scout Leader in 1969, a role he held until 2003. He has continued to be a constant supporter of the Group ever since.
His service to 1st Ponteland Scout Group was recognised by the award of a Medal of Merit in 1978, Bar to the Medal of Merit in 1985 and Silver Acorn in 1997. In 2005, Michael was recognised in the Queen’s New Years Honours with an MBE for his services to young people, specifically in Ponteland Scout Group.
